Down Dog – Excellent App to begin a Yoga Practice at Home

If you have been wanting to start a yoga practice but do not have access to a class or cannot afford on, Down dog is the app for you. It is also excellent for mommies with small kids who do not have the luxury of going to a class. Even if you do not fall in any of these categories and are generally a fan of yoga, do try practicing with this app. I am sure it will get you hooked.

This is an excellent app for yoga practice at home and suits all levels beginner to advance. I don’t really remember how I came across this app but it was last year July when I started using this app.

The app gives you free access for 6 days and after that if you enjoy it you can take a paid subscription. But right now is the perfect time to use it and see if it suits you. The app is free of cost till May. Being in quarantine would give you time to practice it. You may even manage to have a one hour practice and you would know if it is worth the investment.

Additionally yoga has awesome benefits to reduce anxiety and improve your immunity. So even more important to grab this opportunity and make the most of it. I have been practicing yoga for a while and I can surely say it is the best start I can give to my day. By the way i also wrote a post on how you can make your lockdown period free of anxiety. It may interest you and give you good inspiration. do check it out here.

The app is very flexible. You can choose a practice that suits your time and needs. You can choose a full practice or you can keep it gentle or restorative. Moreover what you choose you can further tweak it to be effective for certain body parts. Say for your abs, or back or hamstrings. It also lets you choose a pace appropriate to you.

The restorative yoga is my absolute favorite. I do it alone on many days and on other days I do it as a stretching routine post my HIIT. On a day with aching muscles the routine relaxes and energizes my body and that is something you can only experience for yourself.

You also choose the amount of time you would like to be in Savasana post your yoga. Savasna(the corpse pose) is an integral part of any yoga routine. It is very important to relax the body after the practice and savasna gives a complete rest to the body and mind. A good relaxation makes for a complete and effective yoga practice. The app lets you choose to be in savasna from 1 minute to 15 minutes.

Apart for the bigger modifications with respect to the practice there are also many smaller modifications that you can work on like the sound, choice of music, the pace of practice.

The app mixes up the workouts every time you are following it. So you aren’t bored of following the same routine every time.

There is also a Facebook group corresponding to the app. It helps you stay connected to the other users and is very motivating.

All in all Down Dog is an excellent App to practice yoga. And I say this from personal of using many. I even used the many youtube channels for yoga. and though they are very good too, but the definitely do not give you the freedom to design your own workout. Moreover youtube is very distracting. You can check out the app here. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do 🙂
