New Year Resolution – Yay or Nay!

New year resolution have been in trend one point of time. Now with all the mindfulness and slowing down theories going around many people tend to take a back seat and mock the whole resolution thing. ( I love mocking too ;))
But then I also feel that with respect to new year resolutions we just need to soften our stance and instead of a resolve we can take it as an intention to bring around some beautiful changes in our life. Why can we not slow down and resolve to reach our goals at the same time. Resolutions can be mindfully done. Is it not?
We all love to start afresh because we all falter and we all come up with new goals and ambitions every now and then. But then to make a fresh start, any day is a good day and one may not wait for the new years day.
Although often there are those things which are on our mind for a long time… Behaviour patterns that we need to change or new ones that we wish to inculcate into our lives but have been pending forever. We want to do things we know will have a great impact but somehow never get around to doing them.
And there definitely is something magical about the festive season… the new year. It is a feeling after all but if it is something that inspires you to bring a change… I had say listen to that voice if it is calling out to you too.
But also remember that your new year resolution should be something that is flexible and yet not so flexible that you drop it at the very first challenge. Keep the flexibility to falter but have the commitment to see through till the end.
I have not had too many new year resolutions but this year somehow I feel called to have one. In fact I have been reading this wonderful book called The Happiness Project and I intend to have an year of resolutions. The way it goes is to shortlist the areas of your life that you wish to bring a change in and then take on one area at a time, say every month.
So there would not be one new year resolution, but few intentions every month…. (one of the resolutions is to write more regularly here). I am still building on the list, but my intentions for January are more or less in place.
At the end of this project I hope to see a beautiful change in myself one baby step at a time.
So there is no yay or nay for new year resolutions. Do whatever you feel called to do. If you feel that you need not wait for the new years eve for making a resolution, do it when you can. But if like me you are feeling inspired around the new year to set that goal moving… so be it.
And you may also call it whatever you like to – a project, a resolution or an intention. The feelings behind the idea are what really matter.
I have my intention aka resolutions in place… How about you?
